Island Kids has been a part of the Roosevelt Island community since the 1980s. It brings together kids from many diverse backgrounds for play and education based fun aiming to support a more cohesive and tolerant community. In 2024, to support its mission of equity and inclusion, Island Kids awarded scholarships to 24% of participants, with most being full scholarships. The program provided $230,650 in scholarships across all its offerings, with a majority of the funding coming from the organization’s operating budget, supplemented by grants. Island Kids ensures that no child is turned away unless programs are at capacity.
